Studying at public universities can be cheaper than private ones. While in the public universities the tuition fees are between $4000 – 7000 per year, the tuition fees for the private universities vary between $8000 – 10000; on the other hand, international students can study in Malaysian universities for free based on some conditions.

In general, Post graduate degrees can cost between $5000- 8000 for a two year master program, and from 48000 – 10000 for a three year PhD program based on the length and type of course.

English Courses

International students who are in need to improve their second language to help them understand their main programs in Malaysian universities can enroll in different English language levels in terms of any course a student is able to engage in. The cost of these courses starts from $500 – 1100, in addition to having IELTS courses. These English courses are available either in some universities, or in many academic institutions students can look for to upgrade their English language level.

Weather and Environment

Malaysia is very close to waters, so the climate is usually very wet; nevertheless, the weather is mild, and not too hot, as temperatures vary between 20⁰ c to 30⁰ c along the whole year, but on mountains and highlands the temperatures are less than this, as the weather is very cold.

During rainy periods it is best to avoid the east beach holiday as it is the wettest during times of rain, but the west beach is still better than the east coast. So a beach holiday can be lovely all year round Malaysia.

Culture

Malaysia hosts multiple cultures the main ethnic society is Malays who are the native residents, in addition to many populations of Chinese and Indians as well. These ethnicities represent their own religion, habits, traditions and lifestyles, and their public holidays are considered popular festivals for them.

• Private rented houses and rooms. These are the most common and popular choices among students.
• University managed houses and rooms.

On average, international students should have between $100 – 200 a month for accommodation depending on its type and location. For living expenses, any international student is in need to have between $400 – 500 a month to live a good life, which is 50 % less expensive than for students to live in any European or American state. These expenses are for food, services, restaurants, entertainments, clothing, transportation, internet and phone.

Student Visa

A student pass is an entry visa for a number of times granting international students a permission to stay in Malaysia for the right of studying an acknowledged program at a certified institution.

Documents required for a student visa

• A student visa application form must be filled and signed by the applicant.
• A letter of acceptance from the respected university approved by the pass and permit division via the Immigration Headquarters of Malaysia
• A two – passport- sized photographs
• The application fee payment receipt
• A passport photo
• A certificate of the third secondary class to indicate student status

How to apply

Any international student, in the first hand, has to apply for a student pass through Education Malaysian Global Services. As soon as you get a certified provisional student pass, the student visa will be issued for you upon entering Malaysia.

Health Insurance

Private health insurance is not expensive; a student has to pay $400 a year for key covers unless you can prove that you are covered by a sponsoring government.
