Overview Key factsThe Stellenbosch University's Actuarial Sciences programme is structured in such a way that successful students can obtain exemption from most of the examinations of the Actuarial Society of South Africa in their BCom (Actuarial Science) and BCom (Honours) degrees. To obtain exemption for any given subject, students need to achieve an appropriate mark in the corresponding university subject. This programme also prepares students thoroughly for some of the other external examinations for which no exemption is available.What we offerIn addition to covering the actuarial, statistical and mathematical material required to qualify as an actuary, the above-mentioned curriculum also develops the ability to interpret and apply financial and economic data. The Actuarial Sciences programme at the Stellenbosch University is the first step in the training of actuaries. Actuaries may be described as independent professionals who are experts in the analysis and modelling of situations involving financial risk and contingent events.
