    About

Overview This Aerospace Engineering course from Instituto Superior Técnico allows the Aerospace Engineer to intervene in all stages of the life-cycle of a vehicle, from its conception and project, to the operation and maintenance, tests and production. The course makes use of the computer facilities of the IST, in particular of the laboratories of the Departments of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering. Currently, an aero-acoustic wind tunnel and a 6-degree of freedom flight simulator are being installed. Among the specific aerospace equipment, it is worth noting the on-flight trial plane Casa Aviocar, which has been operated in cooperation with the Portuguese Air Force and used in national and international research projects in the fields of flight dynamics and air traffic management. Portugal is one of the six countries equipped with this type of plane, and the IST is one of the five higher education institutions that has access to an "on-flight lab" for teaching and research purposes.EmploymentThe numerus clausus of the MEA increased form 35 to 80 over the last few years, keeping a high admission average, of about 85%, and guaranteeing employment to all the newly graduates, since the demand for engineers exceeds supply. Aerospace Engineering is one the most interdisciplinary programmes, one of those that put more emphasis on advanced technologies; that is why the Aerospace Engineers perform the most wide-ranging activities worldwide, considering that it is an extremely internationalized sector. In addition, with regard to branch of aircrafts and avionics, the Aerospace Engineers are perfectly qualified to develop their activity as Mechanical Engineers and Electro-technical Engineers, respectively, albeit the purpose is not that.
The Integrated MSc programme in Aerospace Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico is a synthesis of the cutting-edge technologies that distinguish the 20th century, which are materialized into different types of vehicles, such as airplanes, helicopters, robotized aircrafts, spaceships and satellites.
