Animation and Game Art BA (Hons)

    About

What makes Animation and Game Art at Worcester special?

Game Art and Animation are complimentary disciplines that offer many possibilities such as CGI animator, gameplay animator, technical animator, VFX or concept artist. Working in our dedicated Game Art and Animation Studios, you will have access to industry standard software such as Autodesk Maya, Motionbuiler, Toon Boom and Adobe Suite. Our dedicated technicians provide friendly support for students working with equipment and software. You can also hire out professional film/sound equipment, graphics tablets, lightboxes and other kit, as well as booking sound and video studios, including a state-of-the-art film studio with green screen for VFX. Our in-house motion performance centre provides state of the art realtime capture using Vicon Shogun allowing you to experience motion capture pipelines.

Excellent industry links include our animation panel of award winning talent from our region (Dice Productions, Yaminations, Second Home Studios), who provide support and real-world experience. Game Art comes with membership of UKIE for Students giving access to industry events, portfolio reviews and talks, as well as our own regular guest speakers from game developers, such as Rare, Sony and Ubisoft.

A passion for games or creative technology with a love for moving image, could make this the right combination for you.

    Career

In addition to developing your capabilities as an animator or game artist, the course will enable you to develop a wide range of transferable skills, from research and critical thinking, to problem-solving, to communication and negotiation. You will find career opportunities not only in animation production or the games industry, but television motion graphics, compositing, visual effects and independent filmmaking.

Our graduates have gone on to be employed in major production and games studios worldwide, including Sony Pictures, Aardman, Cloth Cat Productions and Rockstar Games.

Game Development is an expanding sector in the creative industries and this offers good opportunities for graduates from the course. The West Midlands is identified as the region with the highest number of employees in the game industry in the UK, so the University is ideally placed for undergraduate work opportunities for Game Art students, as well as placements on graduation.

Our interdisciplinary approach gives flexibility and a wider view of the world, which is attractive to employers. This course also provides an ideal base from which to go on to postgraduate study.
