    About

Background to the program and subject area:
The Chemical Engineering Department was established in 1978. The Department has established itself as the primary supplier of B.Sc. chemical engineers in Jordan. The Chemical Engineering B.Sc. programs accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, the recognized U.S. accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing , engineering and technology.

Furthermore; the department launched the master degree program by1986 which made the department a research force to be reckoned in Jordan. The Department offices are located in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at the University of Jordan.
The Department of Chemical Engineering at University of Jordan prides itself on preparing its students for creative careers in industry, academia, and government. The department is a community of outstanding researchers, experienced educators, distinguished engineers, and talented students.
Research activities undertaken by the faculty span a wide range of chemical engineering topics including, but not limited to, separation processes, transport phenomena, reaction engineering, molecular thermodynamics, membrane processes, safety engineering, renewable energy, wastewater treatment, and computer aided design.
Moreover, the department is well equipped for teaching and research facilities. For teaching purpose; the lecture halls are equipped with the latest teaching technology including interactive boards, data show, projectors and computers. Likewise the teaching laboratories such as fluid mechanics, the heat transfer and mass transfer, the reaction, which are used to insight the theoretical knowledge to the practical application. On the other hand, the research laboratories involve many up to date equipment in order to facilitate the currently undertaken research in the department including fuel processing, analytical chemistry, membrane processes and desalination, biochemical engineering, safety engineering. Computer halls for both undergraduate and graduate students are also available.
Currently, there are sixteen faculty members in the department with different academic affiliations of assistant professors, associate professors and professors. It worth’s mentioning that all the academic staff in the department are well educated and have obtained their degrees from highly ranked universities in North America, Great Britain and Europe.
Dr.Mohammad Rassol Qtaishat is currently the chairman of the department.
    Vision statements of the program:
To be one the leading Departments of Chemical Engineering in Jordan and the Arab world where the fundamentals of science, the principles of chemical engineering, and the highest professional and moral conduct are fused into multi-disciplinary teaching and research programs aimed at producing world-class graduates and research.
    Mission statements of the program:
Our mission is to provide students with quality chemical engineering education, provide services, and carry out basic and applied research. The program mission is in full agreement with stated University and College missions.
    Program Aims:
Within a few years of graduation, graduates of Chemical Engineering program are expected to:
    1. Demonstrate their ability to integrate and apply knowledge, skills, professional ethics and leadership at national, regional and global levels.
    2. Show proficiency in working independently and as an effective team member, functioning as responsible professionals.
    3. Establish themselves as distinguished professionals in industry, academia and other related fields.
    4. Pursue futher development through postgraduate studies in chemical engineering or allied fields.

    Career

    • Potential Careers

Graduates are qualified to work as engineers in various fields:

    1. Industrial Fields:
Chemical engineers supervise a wide range of industries, including, but not limited to, chemical, oil and petrochemical, nanotechnology, paint, food and pharmaceuticals, plastics, water desalination, cement, fertilizer, pollution control and reduction, and corrosion.
    2. Safety and Security:
Safety engineers are responsible for protecting workers from chemical hazards. Chemical engineers use their knowledge to manage risks in various factories, such as those in oil and petrochemical sectors. Safety engineers must inspect maintenance sites and approve them, ensuring workplace safety.
    3. Engineering Designs:
Chemical engineering is concerned with studying engineering designs related to chemical industries. This includes gathering information to create optimal design by selecting the industrial process, its conditions, the used chemicals, and the necessary equipment. Chemical engineers are responsible for organizing, arranging, and monitoring the units, as well as calculating the feasibility of the whole production process.
    4. Scientific Research:
Chemical engineers conduct scientific research in universities and industries. They develop effective waste disposal methods, solve industrial problems, and engage in various other scientific endeavors.
    5. Engineering Consulting:
Chemical engineers with high academic qualifications and strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are well-suited for consultancy roles. In consultancy, chemical engineers provide expertise across various fields, including environmental and industrial sectors, and work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
