    BA (Hons) Music

    About

    The BA (Hons) Music is a one-year course that will provide music performers and production students the opportunity to hone their craft and to focus on a career in the music industry. If you have a vocational qualification at level 5 (e.g. an HND) or a foundation degree you can convert that into a full degree with all the benefits that entails. A number of units will allow you to choose the academic and practical topics that you will cover in extended projects enabling you to determine the material you will be studying and creating. You will gain a deeper understanding of cultural theory and how music fits into the wider framework of society, philosophy and other creative disciplines. You will work as a team on collaborative projects involving college initiatives such as the in-house record label and radio station or cross discipline with Creative Arts or Performing Arts students. Your creativity will be stretched through exploring sound and technology in performance or installation. You will be taught by industry experienced staff, and visiting professionals, on industry standard equipment you will learn in a small groups through a combination of one-to-one teaching, seminars, practical workshops and collaborative group work. You will build on the skills you already possess and integrate new technical, theoretical and creative understanding to create a portfolio of work to support your aspirations in entering the music industry.

    HND (BTEC)
    Students will normally be expected to hold at least one of the following or equivalent UK or international qualifications of the value of 120 credits at level 4 and 120 credits at level 5: • BTEC Higher National Diploma • fDA Foundation Degree • DipHE These qualifications will be in a related subject to music but may encompass for example Media / Broadcast / Music Theatre where appropriate.


    English Program Requirements


    Where an applicant’s first language is not English, proof of competence in English will be required. For undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, this will normally take the form of an approved English language test at B2 level in the Common European Framework of Reference.
