Huge increases in the volume of data have led to a growing demand for professionals who can design, organise, manage and manipulate databases. These professionals also need the ability to analyse and extract useful and practical insights and then communicate these findings to a range of audiences.
Designed for students who wish to develop strong and rigorous mathematical, statistical and computing skills, the degree involves the development of good communication and consulting skills, providing a holistic education.
You will study a range of subjects in big data mining and management, database systems, sample survey and experimental designs, linear algebra, statistical models and time series analysis, data analytics and visualisation. This degree includes industry guest lectures and industry-inspired projects that involve a series of related analyses.
Additionally, students will complete a Professional Practice subject involving an industry relevant project to develop their skills in identifying problems, selecting relevant techniques, communicating effectively and managing projects.
A Data Science and Analytics (Honours) degree is available to high performing students who have completed the three-year Bachelor of Data Science and Analytics degree.
See the course handbook for more information.
There are opportunities for scholarships from corporate partners, plus summer scholarships and undergraduate research projects with academic staff. You will have access to programs offered by the Australian Mathematical Sciences Institute (AMSI) ACE Network.
