    About

    The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Professional Diploma is awarded to those who successfully meet the requirements of the Diploma or Advanced Diploma stages. The Diploma is the first stage. Once this has been awarded, you can proceed to the Advanced Diploma and then the Professional Diploma. This ladder of qualification leads to Corporate Membership of the CIPS, namely MCIPS. This is regarded by most businesses and organisations as the gold standard route to MCIPS, because of its practical learning element. The University of South Wales is a long-established Centre of Excellence for delivering the CIPS Professional Diploma and is well-regarded locally for the open programme and the specific public sector route, delivered in conjunction with Value Wales. The University also works in partnership with procurement professionals and has established the Procurement Best Practice Academy to identify, develop and disseminate best practice in procurement and supply chain management.     Diploma (Level Four)

    You will study five core subjects:

    • Sourcing in Procurement and Supply
    • Contexts of Procurement and Supply
    • Business Needs in Procurement and Supply
    • Managing Contracts and Relationships in Procurement and Supply

    Advanced Diploma (Level Five)

    You will study five core subjects:

    • Category Management in Procurement and Supply
    • Management in Procurement and Supply
    • Managing Risks in Procurement and Supply
    • Sustainability in Supply Chains
    • Improving the Competitiveness of Supply Chains

    Professional Diploma (Level Six)

    You will study five core subjects:

    • Leadership in Procurement and Supply
    • Legal Aspects in Procurement and Supply
    • Programme and Project Management
    • Corporate and Business Strategy
    • Strategic Supply Chain Management

    This course is subject to revalidation, this means it is under review as part of the Universitys standard quality assurance and enhancement processes. Course and module content is indicative and may change through the revalidation process. As soon as the course is revalidated, the details will be confirmed and published on the University website.

    Teaching

    This qualification is in line with the governments National Qualification Framework and contains modules on contemporary topics that are essential in procurement and supply chain management.

    You may also complete a work-based project for the Strategic Supply Chain Management module, which could involve identifying a problem in your/an organisation, completing research and making recommendations for a solution.

    Assessment

    You will be assessed through a final CIPS examination for each module.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    If you wish to start at Diploma level, you should either have at least two A-levels (or international equivalent), a CIPS Advanced Certificate qualification or 2 years experience in a business environment.

    If you have relevant prior experience obtained within the last five years, CIPS may grant exemption from some modules.

    The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Diploma in Procurement and Supply is the first stage of the CIPS Professional Diploma in Procurement and Supply qualification. Once this has been awarded, you can then proceed to the Advanced Diploma and then the Professional Diploma.

     

    Career

    This professional stage qualification leads to corporate membership of CIPS. This award is particularly suitable if you are employed or have experience in purchasing, logistics, stores, inventory, contracts and other areas of supply chain management in the public or private sector.
