Overview Chemical Engineering is a branch of engineering that combines knowledge in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Engineering Sciences with a view to carry out research, conceive, project and operate systems that transform chemical substances in final products through chemical, physical and biological processes, in a context of economic, social, ethical and environmental constraints. As a professional activity it is regulated by the Order of Engineers, which requires a training model based on 10 curricular work semesters. The main objectives of the integrated cycle of studies leading to the Master degree in Chemical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico are the following:Offer sound, large spectrum and updated fundamentals that prepare students for leadership positions in a career of Chemical Engineering or related areas, providing them with an autonomous learning ability, as well as a critical, flexible and creative spirit, which will make them apt to adapt themselves in a fast changing technological universe;Provide appropriate academic training leading to the award of professional title of Engineer, conferred by the Order of Engineers;Offer an inter- and cross-disciplinary approach between courses based on chemistry, physics and mathematics and process and product engineering branches, management, materials and pollution control;Train human resources with a thorough preparation at the level of the fundamental methods and principles of Chemical Engineering and with a clear vision of the integration of this knowledge in its different areas of application, namely industry, environment and services;Synthesize the unifying convergence of the different Technologies which are currently related to Chemistry and Biological Engineering and that will contribute to the development and innovation of the advanced fields of Chemical Engineering;Offer a set of Minors with the purpose of ensuring the training in key areas of intervention of Chemical Engineers, either in traditional applications, or in emerging areas. Efforts will be made in order to link these areas with new opportunities, both at national and international level, such as the opening of new units of chemical industry.EmploymentChemical and Petrochemical Industry; Pharmaceutical Industry; Agro-Food Industry; Environment Industry; Textile Industry; Commerce and Services; R & D and Education Institutions.

The Master's Degree in Chemical Engineering is coordinated by the Chemical Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico.

1If you have completed an undergraduate or an integrated masters (1st study cycle) at Instituto Superior Técnico, even though with no scientific consistency with the course of the 2nd study cycle that you wish to apply to;Hold an undergraduate degree (1st study cycle) in the field of Science and Technology (except in the case of the 2nd study cycle in Architecture which requires a 1st study cycle programme in Architecture);Hold either an academic, scientific or professional curriculum verifying the capability to complete the master’s programme you are applying to.
