CIVIL ENGINEERING
The Doctorate Degree Program with thesis in Civil Engineering aims to give depth and breadth to students in topics related to structural engineering, earthquake engineering, geotechnics, project and construction management, to find appropriate solutions to complex engineering problems that are not solved before, to train well-equipped engineers with an ability of conducting original scientific research and to hence equip them with knowledge and skills needed to carry out research and work in national and international projects which are not routine applications of everyday engineering problems. The program is a 180 ECTS credit program with a duration of 3 academic years composed of 6 consecutive 30-ECTS semesters. The regular program consists of 7 courses of 21 local credits and a thesis. The course work has 60 ECTS credits while the thesis has 120 ECTS credits. Upon the request of the program director, the institute may require the prospective student to enroll to additional courses if his/her background is not considered to be sufficient to follow the program requirements. The department has well developed laboratories with a floor space of 950 m2 housing state-of-the-art equipments for static and dynamic tests in the fields of structural and earthquake engineering, geotechnical engineering and materials science and hydraulics engineering.
