Language Proficiency
English is the language of teaching at Bilkent University. Applicants are required to provide proof of their proficiency in English. Students whose level of English is insufficient to follow courses are required to enroll in the English Language Preparatory Program. Those accepted to the Translation and Interpretation department must take, in addition, a Proficiency Examination in French, and those whose level of French is insufficient are required to follow the language program in the French Preparatory Program.
Undergraduate Admissions
To begin undergraduate studies at Bilkent, all Turkish citizens (with the exception of those who have completed all of high school abroad) must take the entrance examinations (YKS) administered by the National Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). Based on the results of these exams, ÖSYM places students according to their preferences. Applicants to the Fine Arts, Music, and Performing Arts departments need to take the passing score in the first exam of YKS in order to apply for the aptitude test of these departments administered by the respective faculties in the summer.
All international students who want to study at Bilkent University for an undergraduate program have to apply directly to Bilkent's Office of International Students. Various international and national exams and diplomas are used in evaluating the candidates.

Graduate Admissions
The following are some of the general graduate admission requirements for all departments:
- All applicants are required to take the ALES \glossary{ALES Exam} (Akademik Personel ve Lisansüstü Eğitimi Giriş Sınavı - Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam) given by ÖSYM.
- International applicants and Turkish applicants who graduated from a BA or BS program abroad, may submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), or other written test scores instead of ALES scores upon the approval of the respective Graduate School Executive Board.
- Fluency in written and oral English.

Transfer Students
Qualifying students at other universities may apply to transfer to Bilkent University. Please contact the Registrar's office for details.

Exchange Programs
Bilkent University has exchange programs with several major universities in Europe and around the world. The Student Exchange Program gives Bilkent students the opportunity to study abroad while experiencing a different culture. It also exposes visiting students to the culture, art, and history of Turkey.
Program participants pay the regular tuition fees to their home institution for the semester, and are responsible for additional travel, housing, food, and incidental costs as well as insurance expenses and other minor fees while at the host university. A number of outgoing Erasmus students are granted a monthly stipend from EU funds. Detailed information about Erasmus and other exchange programs may be found at exchange.bilkent.edu.tr
Semester Registration
Students are required to register for courses at the beginning of each semester within the time limits announced by the University in the academic calendar. Tuition must be paid prior to registration by the deadline announced by the University.

Bilkent University accepts international qualifications listed below and a wide range of national qualifications listed here for study in our undergraduate programs. These are the minimum qualifications required for application. Meeting these minimum qualifications does not guarantee admission to a program.
SAT (digital & paper-based):
Reasoning Test: A minimum score of 1000 out of 1600 in “Math” and “Critical Reading” sections.
Subject Test: A minimum score of 500 out of 800 from minimum two sections related to the applied program.
GCE Advanced Level (General Certificate Education),
Cambridge International A Level:
Minimum three A level subjects in particular area of the applied program with at least “C” grade.
For 5 (five) subjects:
a) 2 (two) A levels + 3 (three) O levels
b) 2 (two) A levels + 1 (one) AS level + 2 (two) O levels
For 4 (four) subjects:
a) 3 (three) A levels + 1 (one) O level
Please note that applications with predicted grades/results/scores will not be evaluated.
International Baccalaureate (IB):
A minimum diploma score of 28 out of 45. Mimimum one HL subject related to the applied program.
International Science Olympiads:
Gold, Silver or Bronze Medal holders in International Science Olympiads recognized by TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey)
Students who are admitted to the University will be asked to provide the original copies of all the documents submitted with their application. Bilkent University reserves the right to verify the validity of exam scores.
