Diploma of Creative Arts and Health [A1C]

An ageing population and rising levels of depression and anxiety in youth, the elderly, and people living in rural areas are significant challenges for Tasmania, Australia and internationally. Research is demonstrating ways in which music, visual arts, theatre and other creative arts can contribute to addressing these challenges.

The Diploma of Creative Arts and Health offers you an interdisciplinary study experience that is unique. You will gain knowledge of innovative uses of creative arts in a range of community and health-care settings, while developing an understanding of the effects of the arts on brain and body in the social and cultural context.  There are opportunities to explore your own creativity and learn about international best practice for ethical and effective implementation of arts programmes in both community and healthcare settings.

Pay for uni later with a HELP loan

Costs should never get in the way of university. If you're an eligible domestic student, you can take advantage of an interest-free loan from the Government, which means you can pay your tuition fees later. This is called a HELP loan. There are a few different options, but the most common are called HECS-HELP and FEE-HELP.

The Diploma of Ageing Studies and Services will cover contemporary issues relating to care and services for older people. You will learn about the many social and health challenges that are associated with ageing. Areas of focus include the idea of ‘care navigation', policy, safety and health promotion. You will also look at the rising impact of dementia.

As a graduate of the Diploma of Ageing Studies and Services you will be equipped with contemporary knowledge to assist older adults and their families in navigating the complexity of the aged care system and the trajectory of the needs of older adults across complex health and social systems.

You could work in a variety of areas including aged care navigation; community support; policy development or in an advisory capacity.

Articulation: Completion of the Diploma of Ageing Studies and Services would enable articulation into year two of the Bachelor of Dementia Care (with an optional major in Ageing Studies and Services).

Note: As a Diploma of Ageing Studies and Services student, you will receive an automatic pre-requisite waiver for CAD101. Sometimes there are delays in this process. All international students will need to meet the minimum English Language Requirements, University General Entry Requirements and any course specific requirements such as pre-requisite subjects, if applicable.

English Language Requirements

This degree requires an IELTS (Academic) of 6.0, with no individual band less than 5.5, or a PTE Academic score of 50, with no score lower than 42 or equivalent.

For students who do not meet the English Language Requirement through citizenship or prior studies in English in an approved country, evidence of an approved English language test completed within the last 2 years must be provided. See the English Language Requirements page for more information.

General Entry Requirements

Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires the completion of qualifications equivalent to a 12^th year of education in Australia.

You can also meet the General Entry Requirement for this course with the following qualifications or prior studies:

• Completion of an equivalent AQF Certificate IV or above
• Complete or incomplete (minimum 25 credit points) of previous tertiary study at Bachelor level or higher

If you do not meet the minimum requirements, we offer the Foundation Studies Program.

Course Specific Requirements

This course does not have any course specific requirements.

• All methods of meeting University of Tasmania English language requirements have a validity period of 2 years unless involving a country specific qualification as listed below.
• Each course offered by the University of Tasmania has a minimum English language requirement for entry as listed below. Applicants must also meet the academic entry requirements for each course.
• Applicants who qualify from a University of Tasmania program, and intend to gain professional registration to become a practitioner in Australia, may need to meet the relevant Professional Accrediting Agency's English language registration standard.
• In exceptional circumstances or cases not covered by the categories outlined below, multiple forms of evidence may be considered on a case by case basis by the Executive Director, Student Operations in consultation with the Director, Academic Quality and Standards.
• The University reserves the right to require that any applicant be required to undergo a test of English language.

Graduates will be eligible for membership of ANZACATA (Australian, New Zealand and Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association)
