    There are a large range of exciting PhD opportunities aligned to the ground-breaking Flinders Caring Futures Institute, Australia’s first fully-dedicated research organisation for the study of self-care and caring solutions.

    The Caring Futures Institute works with leading care organisations, health professionals, community partners and consumers to pioneer outcome-driven research that makes a positive impact on people’s lives, tackling some of the world’s most ‘wicked problems’.

    We support diversity and warmly welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates and those with lived experience of disability or marginalisation.

    The Master of Teaching (Secondary) consists of 72 units over two years, taken as 36 units per year in a full-time load or the equivalent on a part-time basis. The study program includes an introduction to teaching and research in the education profession, researching learners and learning, and relationships for learning and teaching. Curriculum topics will deal with understanding and developing curriculum in context in the middle years of school as well as senior years specialisations, and assessment in education. Topics will discuss differentiation and inclusive educational practices, teaching Indigenous Australian students as well as professional issues in secondary education, and the reflective professional in action. Literacies and numeracies for the middle and secondary years and ICT will be covered. The program will include the required professional experience placements with preparation lectures and preliminary work.


    Entry Requirements

    Applicants must normally hold a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification or hold a the Graduate Certificate in Leadership in Education or closely related qualification. In addition, applicants must also have no less than two years’ work experience in an organisation.

    English Program Requirements

    If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers. This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.


    A PhD will provide you with expert knowledge and position you for senior roles in healthcare, aged care, community organisations, policy, academia, human services or the funeral industry.
