    About

Overview Key factsStudents who intend following a career, for instance, as an economic or financial analyst or consultant should register for the Economic Sciences programme at the Stellenbosch University. The focal areas that you choose will largely determine the kinds of jobs available to you. See below for the focal areas offered by this programme and the different lines of work for which they prepare you. What we offerYou may combine Economics with other subjects in order to concentrate more specifically on study areas suitable for a career as an economist, econometrician, economic and management consultant or a position in the financial sector. The financial sector offers good career opportunities for those who choose economics as their focal area. Qualified persons will typically be employed as economic or financial analysts. Another career option includes economic or management consultancy. Those with a strong quantitative background and aptitude can choose employment as econometricians in either the financial or the public sectors, or at a research institution. The Economic Sciences programme at the Stellenbosch University focuses almost exclusively on economics. Because of the importance of statistics for the development of high-level economic analysis, Statistics or Mathematical Statistics is a prescribed subject in this programme up to the second-year level.
