The Bachelor’s Program in Smart and Sustainable Cities Engineering, offered by the Hajaji College of Engineering and Technology at Yarmouk University, is the first program of its kind in Jordan. Designed to meet the pressing and evolving needs of urban environments, this interdisciplinary program provides students with the tools to reimagine how cities work – technologically, sustainably, and socially. The program is scheduled to seek ABET accreditation by the time the first class graduates, reflecting its commitment to international standards for engineering education. Thanks to a curriculum that links engineering, urban planning and cutting-edge digital technologies, students gain high proficiency in areas such as smart energy systems, smart transportation, water and waste management, and urban resilience. The program focuses on integrating advanced technologies such as digital twins, smart grids, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence into the design and management of sustainable urban ecosystems. Students are trained to develop innovative solutions that respond to the challenges of rapid urbanization, climate change and resource constraints, making them key players in shaping sustainable, efficient and liveable cities for future generations.
