Overview The master degree in Environmetal Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico aims to prepare engineers with a high technical and scientific profile and knowleadge to solve problems that are beyond the studied subjects.This master degree is aimed at the areas of environmental technology and management, the teaching being supported on the basic sciences of engineering, namely on solid knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry. This allows the graduates to act with technical and scientific capacity in the analysis and resolution of environmental problems, as well as in the management of natural resources. The course considers the environmental problems from an integrated perspective (ecological, social, economical and technological) necessary to reach a sustainable and equilibrated development of the productive activities. It favours interdisciplinarity so that the horizontal character of Environmental Engineering is taken into account as well as the permanent evolution of the sciences and technologies of the environment. The horizontal approach is supported at the Instituto Superior Tecnico by the fact that several departments are involved in the coordination, namely Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mining and Georesources Engineering and Chemical and Biological Engineering.EmploymentThe skills acquired during the degree course take into consideration that the employment possibilities for an Environmental Engineer are very diverse. In terms of professional exits, the following may be considered: Industry (e.g. environmental management and wastes treatment), Consulting companies, Central, Regional and Local Administration, State and Private Organisms related with environment, Laboratories and Institutes of Research and Monitorization.

1If you have completed an undergraduate or an integrated masters (1st study cycle) at Instituto Superior Técnico, even though with no scientific consistency with the course of the 2nd study cycle that you wish to apply to;Hold an undergraduate degree (1st study cycle) in the field of Science and Technology (except in the case of the 2nd study cycle in Architecture which requires a 1st study cycle programme in Architecture);Hold either an academic, scientific or professional curriculum verifying the capability to complete the master’s programme you are applying to.
