Gender Studies Ph.D. Program
Kadir Has University is one of the few universities in Turkey that maintains a focus on important issues such as gender, the social position of women and gender equality. Kadir Has University signed onto the United Nations Global Compact and its commitment to ensuring gender equality in 2010, and drawing attention to areas of responsibility on gender equality issues, Kadir Has University was the second university in Turkey to include gender equality in its corporate social responsibility report.
The primary aim of the program is to provide advanced education and research opportunities in the field of gender and women's studies for academics and researchers; to introduce students to theoretical frameworks, discourses, methods and progressive practices focusing on gender, creating a rich academic environment in which complex relationships between gender relations and social, cultural, political, economic and spatial formations can be explored.
The program positions itself not at the point of intersection of social sciences and humanities as is the case in many of its counterparts in the world and in Turkey, but within an interdisciplinary framework which aims at critically analyzing research traditions in social sciences and humanities and their ontological and epistemological premises, by problematizing knowledge and knowledge production processes in light of gender concepts.
In this way, the program aims to provide students of different disciplines with the ability to engage in knowledge production processes with a gender perspective regardless of their respective research topics. Another aim of the program is to train researchers who can conduct gender studies in institutions or non-governmental organizations operating in areas such as women's and family policies, urban policy, migration and human rights. Due to its interdisciplinary nature, the Gender Studies Ph.D. program accepts applications from all disciplines.
