    About

    If you are seeking a career in construction management, and project management from a national and international construction management perspective, this course is an ideal option for you. You will also gain valuable education for a broader career basis such as architects, builders, engineers, quantity surveyors, construction economists, and facilities managers.

    This course provides the basis for exciting careers as construction managers and assists with employment areas of Construction Management including Project Management principles, Construction Contract Administration, Construction Risk Management and Construction Technology.

    The first four units of the Graduate Diploma of Construction Management incorporate principles of project management as it applies across different phases of the construction cycle to achieve successful project outcomes in terms of time, cost, quality, safety, and sustainability for construction projects. 

    In your next three units, you will learn the construction-specific nuances of risk management and how to manage those risks. You will also develop an important understanding of legal concepts relevant to contracts and become familiar with the Building and Construction Industry Security of Payment Act.

    Your final unit introduces you to modern building construction technology with an emphasis on multi-unit and low-rise construction including material selection and methods of modern construction of residential and commercial projects including multi-storey buildings as designated by the National Construction Code for building classes 1 to 10.

    Benefit from the flexibility to study full-time or part-time, on-campus or online. As this course incorporates the first eight units of the Master of Construction Management (CL82), students can pathway into the masters program.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants must hold one of the following:

    • A completed Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) equivalent Diploma; with a minimum of 2 years relevant industry employment experience^; or

    • A completed Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) equivalent 3-year Bachelor of Project Management; with a minimum of 2-years relevant industry employment experience^; or

    • A completed Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) equivalent 3-year Bachelor degree in a relevant field*.

    *Relevant fields include: Architecture, Building, Construction Management, Engineering.

    ^Industry experience must relate to construction management. Employment experience must be shown in a letter of employment which is presented on a company letterhead as well as signed and dated by a delegated authority. The letter must contain position title, duties performed and length of service.

    English Language Proficiency Requirements:

    If you were not born in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa or United States of America you are required to meet the English Language Proficiency requirements set by the University. Applicants are required to provide evidence of completion of:

    • A secondary qualification (Year 11 and 12, or equivalent), or

    • An Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) diploma level qualification, or

    • Bachelor level qualification study for a period of at least 2 years full time with a minimum overall GPA 4.0

    Completed within Australia, Canada, New Zealand, United Kingdom, South Africa, Ireland, or United States of America, which will meet the English proficiency.

    If you do not satisfy any of the above you will need to undertake an English language proficiency test and achieve the following scores as below:

    • An International English Language Testing System (IELTS Academic) overall band score of at least 6.0 overall with a minimum 5.5 in each subset; or

    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Requires 550 or better overall & minimum TWE score of 4.5 (Paper Based Test), or 75 or better overall and no score less than 17 (Internet Based Test); or

    • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) - Requires an overall score of 54 with no sub-score less than 46; or

    • An Occupational English Test with Grades A or B only in each of the four components.

    English test results remain valid for no more than two years between final examination date and the date of commencement of study, and must appear on a single result certificate.

    Each student will be assessed individually.

    English Program Requirements

    If you don’t meet our English language entry requirements and need to improve your English language proficiency, you can do so through our approved English Language Instruction Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) providers. This means that you can attend the required English language tuition at approved ELICOS providers and gain direct entry into university without an IELTS or TOEFL test.
