In this innovative course, the origins and evolution of public health and the underlying principles of community-based and community-led public health will be explored. The social-ecological model of health forms the basis of the Master of Public Health and you will study complex adaptive systems thinking and how this influences the way we think about public health.

You will have the opportunity to apply these concepts in practical ways in both strengths-based and disease prevention approaches. This will ensure that you apply your learning to real-world situations.

You will have the opportunity to shape this degree to your own needs by selecting from a range of electives.

Our public health teaching team have recent and relevant experience in many facets of public health having worked as health promotion officers, environmental health officers and public health nutritionists in Queensland Health, local government, not-for-profits and private industry. Your teaching team is committed to sharing their insights and knowledge with you so that you gain a wide range of perspectives in public health practice.

Your learning is enhanced through practical and real-world learning experiences where you can apply the skills and knowledge from your studies to authentic scenarios. Two units from within the masters each incorporate 120 hours of work experience in a community-based or community-led public health organisation.
