    Overview Educational objectivesThe Mechanical Engineering programme at Politecnico di Torino can be divided into three interconnected areas : basic scientific training, with teaching modules in mathematics, chemistry, physics and computer science; basic engineering training for industry, with input from various areas (technical design, applied physics, electrical engineering and electrical machinery, materials, applied mechanics, structural mechanics, fluid mechanics, testing and measurements); specific training in mechanical engineering, in planning and design of machines, thermal and fluid machinery, production technologies, and industrial plant and equipment. The first year is devoted mainly to basic scientific training. In the second year, in addition to completion of basic sciences, there will be teaching units in basic engineering. The third year will be dedicated to completing the engineering background, and specific mechanical engineering topics will be addressed. The course is taught both in Italian and English.Career OpportunitiesMore specifically the programme is intended to provide:  knowledge of the physical and chemical background as well as mathematical and informatic tools for engineering applications; knowledge of basic techniques and methodologies used in industrial engineering; a good level of knowledge and skills in specific areas of mechanical engineering: materials, design methods, thermo-fluid dynamics, fluid and heat machines, production technologies, industrial equipment and related technical services; ability to work independently and collaborate effectively even in interdisciplinary working groups; ability to interface, using appropriate technical language and knowledge of basic concepts, with specialists from other engineering fields; ability to deal with change, and strong motivation to stay abreast of new developments and adapt to various industrial situations.
