    About

Overview The B.Theology degree from University of the Western Cape is designed to provide training for Christian leadership in the South African context. Students from a wide variety of churches study theology at UWC. This includes, for example, students from the AFM, African Independent Churches, Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Congregational, Methodist, Moravian, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Reformed and Zionist churches.CareerThe B.Th. degree is well suited for ordained pastors, priests, ministers, reverends or pastoral counsellors.Theological Studies also allows students to develop skills in a variety of other areas, especially in community leadership. This will enable students to follow a career in teaching, community work and counselling. The inclusion of non-theological subjects provides flexible career opportunities, especially for the ministry in congregations that cannot necessarily afford salaried pastors. The Department of Religion and Theology continues a long and proud history of theological training at University of the Western Cape. The programmes may be taken with a view to the ordained ministry in various confessional traditions (the B.Th.), with a view to part-time ministry as a “tentmaker”.
