    English Language and Translation Department:

    The Department of English Language and Translation at the Applied Science Private University is one of the pioneering academic departments in Jordan’s private higher education sector. It was the first to offer two specialized undergraduate programs: English Language and Literature and English Language / Translation. Over the years, the department has expanded its academic portfolio to meet global and regional market needs. In addition to the newly introduced Applied English major, the department proudly launches its latest specialization: Chinese and English Languages, reflecting ASU’s commitment to multilingual education and international cultural exchange.

    ​Established in 1991 within the Department of Languages and becoming an independent department in 1993, the department received specialized accreditation in 1994. It continues to grow both academically and technologically. The department is supported by highly qualified faculty members representing all its specializations and is equipped with two state-of-the-art language laboratories, one dedicated to simultaneous and consecutive interpreting, and the other to phonetics and essential language skills, including grammar, listening, and reading.

    The department attracts the majority of its students from Jordan in addition to a remarkable number of students from across the Arab world, thanks to ASU’s distinguished reputation. Graduates of the department are known for their strong linguistic competence, practical skills, and high employability in diverse professional sectors.

    Requirements and Admission Criteria for Bachelor of English language / translation at Applied Science Private University

    Entry Requirements

    Students with a high school diploma or its equivalent from outside Jordan can enroll in higher education institutions directly through websites of public and private universities or intermediate community colleges based on their averages. Universities implement the credit hours system, which allows students to choose courses according to their study plan.

    Students wishing to enroll in a master's program must hold a bachelor's degree. Furthermore, students who wish to enroll in doctoral programs must hold a master's degree.

    In addition, students wishing to enroll in postgraduate programs are required to provide a certificate confirming their English proficiency level in a TOEFL or IELTS exam. They could also demonstrate a certain proficiency level in French or German. Lastly, they could take an English language exam held by the higher education institution they apply in.

    In the event that the student fails to prove the required level of English, German or French, or fails the English equivalency exam, they may study a qualifying program in English at the university where they undertake additional six credit hours; he/she must score a minimum grade that varies according to their specialization.
