    About Bachelor of Computer Science


    Computer Science is a rich and diverse discipline. Areas of interest to computer scientists range from theoretical studies to the practical development of software for business and industry. Computer scientists' skills, especially in problem-solving, have wide applicability in academic and industrial settings. Thus, graduates of the computer science program are well prepared for advanced studies and for professional work in different industries.
    This program is delivered full-time over four academic years (total of 134 credit hours) and is designed to include four tracks: Programming, Computer Components and Hardware, Networks and Security, and Modelling. It also focuses on the development of soft skills.


    The Department of Computer Science was established in 1991, with the aims to:

    • Providing students with up-to-date educational programs.
    • Preparing students with necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to become leaders and innovators in the field of Computer Science.
    • Producing graduates who will be successful professionals, engaged in lifelong learning, and committed to serve their community.

    Requirements and Admission Criteria for Bachelor of Computer Science at Petra University

    Entry Requirements

    Students with a high school diploma or its equivalent from outside Jordan can enroll in higher education institutions directly through websites of public and private universities or intermediate community colleges based on their averages. Universities implement the credit hours system, which allows students to choose courses according to their study plan.

    Students wishing to enroll in a master's program must hold a bachelor's degree. Furthermore, students who wish to enroll in doctoral programs must hold a master's degree.

    In addition, students wishing to enroll in postgraduate programs are required to provide a certificate confirming their English proficiency level in a TOEFL or IELTS exam. They could also demonstrate a certain proficiency level in French or German. Lastly, they could take an English language exam held by the higher education institution they apply in.

    In the event that the student fails to prove the required level of English, German or French, or fails the English equivalency exam, they may study a qualifying program in English at the university where they undertake additional six credit hours; he/she must score a minimum grade that varies according to their specialization.

    All master’s specializations teach two tracks (thesis/thesis track) and the comprehensive exam track

    Passing the English language exam is a condition for admission

    Thesis/thesis defense fee is 500 dinars

    The comprehensive exam fee is 200 dinars

    Semester registration fees for new students for the year 2025-2026

    Registration fees (non-refundable): 200 dinars for the regular semester, and 100 dinars for the summer semester

    Service fees (sporting, artistic, and other activities) (non-refundable): 170 dinars for the regular semester, and 85 dinars for the summer semester

    Insurance fees (refundable): 100 dinars for the regular semester, and 100 dinars for the summer semester

    First-time admission application fee (paid upon acceptance) (non-refundable): 40 dinars

    Level exam fees (paid upon acceptance) (non-refundable): 45 dinars (for bachelor’s students)
