The Department of Psychological and Educational Counseling was established as one of the departments of the College of Arts and Letters at Philadelphia University in the academic year 2012/2013. The teaching plan for this specialty includes the following areas of knowledge:
Theoretical trends in counseling.
Communication skills in counseling.
Principles of individual and group counseling.
Principles of measurement and evaluation.
Field training (practical field in counseling).
Obtaining a bachelor's degree in this specialty requires the student to complete (132) credit hours, including field training.
The department seeks to prepare a distinguished elite of holders of a bachelor’s degree in psychological counseling, who possess scientific research skills, critical analytical thinking, and continuous learning mechanisms that enable them to absorb innovations in the field of psychological counselling, so that this elite can play its role in the field of providing psychological and educational services to groups of society, whether in schools, hospitals, institutions, or centers that provide counseling and psychological services. Accordingly, this elite can perform the following skills:
Understanding and modifying the behavior of students, workers in service and production institutions, the elderly who suffer from psychological disorders, as well as those with special needs.
Designing an appropriate educational environment for those suffering from a psychological disorder, and being able to choose the appropriate tools and equipment for that.
The ability to spot unusual children early.
Building special educational programs that suit the degree of their psychological disorder.
Identifying the types of disorders and the possibility of diagnosing them, and addressing psychological needs.
