The Department of Chemistry is one of the leading academic departments at the university. Studies began in it during the academic year 1976/1977, and it awards a bachelor's degree in chemistry. In the context of keeping pace with scientific developments and to meet the growing need for postgraduate studies, the master’s program was created in 1982, which grants master’s degrees in the specializations of organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and physical chemistry. The department occupies a building with an area of about 4,000 square meters, which includes nine educational laboratories and fifteen research laboratories, in addition to four lecture halls and offices for faculty members, technicians, and teaching assistants. The department includes an academic body consisting of (26) members, including (10) professors, one honorary professor, (3) associate professors, (4) assistant professors, (4) teachers, and (4) teaching assistants. It also includes an administrative body consisting of (8) employees, including one secretary and (7) laboratory technicians. This qualified academic and administrative staff works to provide a distinguished educational and research environment that contributes to the preparation of scientifically and practically qualified graduates, and the promotion of scientific research and community service.
