Bachelor of Computer science at Yarmouk University

The Department of Computer Science was established in 1978, and studies began in 1980 in the Bachelor of Computer Science program within the College of Science. The department is considered one of the first programs in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan that provides the internal and external market with graduates competent in analyzing and creating computerized systems and working to develop them to suit the requirements of the times in light of the technological capabilities present in the labor market. In light of the insightful vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the increasing internal and external demand for this specialization, the Master’s program in Computer and Information Sciences was created in the department in 2000 AD, where a comprehensive study plan was adopted in this program aiming to provide the graduate of this program with the mechanisms and methodology of modern scientific research and comprehensive, in-depth knowledge in various computer aspects. The university administration decided to establish a special college for information technology specializations, and the College of Information Technology and Computer Science was created for this purpose at the beginning of the first semester 2002/2003, and the department was transferred from the College of Science to the College of Information Technology and Computer Science. The nucleus of this college was the Department of Computer Science, where the department provided the rest of the college’s departments with basic programming subjects, algorithms, and artificial intelligence. Accordingly, a comprehensive update was made to the department’s study plan to keep pace with the growing demand for this sector and raise the level of the graduate to be able to play a value-added role in the local and global market. The university administration has been sending and employing many teachers in the department who hold doctoral and master’s degrees in computer science from prestigious international universities. None of them has hesitated to transfer bright ideas to the department’s students and consolidate information concepts using modern teaching methods and tools. The department has many laboratories that are used to teach some courses to all university students, in addition to specialized laboratories such as the parallel processing laboratory and the multimedia laboratory. Especially a special laboratory for people with special needs, which is the first of its kind in the region. In implementation of the royal directives, which are to harmonize the working and private sectors in the Kingdom, the members of the department participated in providing many advisory and training services to university units and governmental and private institutions in all computer fields. None of the members spares any effort in cooperation with government or private agencies to provide the best education to the department’s students and empower them in the labor market.
