The department was established in the academic year 1991/1992 under the name of Educational Psychology, and as of 1998 it was named the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology. Then in September 2006 the department was named the Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology. The department includes approximately (29) faculty members of various academic ranks, and more than (1,371) male and female students are enrolled. The department seeks to develop and open up to the local community within a specific mechanism and conduct studies that address the problems experienced by students at the university and members of the local community. The department has a psychological counseling laboratory supervised by a technician specialized in psychological counseling. The laboratory provides its services to students, faculty members, and some members of the local community. The counseling laboratory has the latest equipment, such as a relaxation chair and biofeedback tools, and all kinds of psychological tests are conducted there. The department provides educational, health and social institutions with qualified graduates to work with students, patients and people with special needs at the Jordanian and Arab levels. The department grants a bachelor's degree in psychological counseling, a master's degree in the specializations of educational psychology, psychological and educational counseling, measurement and evaluation, and special education, and a doctoral degree in the specializations of educational psychology, psychological counseling, and measurement and evaluation.
