The Department of Computer Information Systems (CIS) was established in 2002 with the beginning of the establishment of the College of Information Technology and Computer Science with the aim of preparing distinguished graduates with skills and competencies that will enable them to succeed in practical life. He began offering a bachelor's degree in computer information systems, and at the beginning of 2003, the first postgraduate program was established in the department to grant a master's degree in computer information systems, with two tracks: thesis and comprehensive examination. The department includes a distinguished group of faculty members who are graduates of the most prestigious international universities in all fields of modern computer information systems. The department also constantly seeks to provide the faculty with distinguished doctoral degree holders by sending distinguished students to obtain a doctorate degree from the best international universities. The department also seeks to raise the level of scientific research and link it to teaching and to the local and regional needs of specialists in information systems, as well as disseminating knowledge and enhancing research cooperation with local, regional and international institutions. The department provides students with the general and specialized knowledge and applied skills necessary to enable them to contribute to providing and increasing the use of computer information systems in all organizations and institutions. The faculty members in the department also believe in the necessity of offering various academic courses in basic and applied information systems at the undergraduate and postgraduate degree levels that combine excellence, modernity, and response to the needs of the local community and the labor market, so that students are prepared and qualified technically by focusing on the practical and applied aspects, which enhances the competitiveness of graduates in obtaining appropriate job opportunities. In order to achieve the department’s vision, which is to strive to achieve a distinguished position among the universities in the region by providing a positive academic environment that aims to provide distinguished education and programs that focus on scientific research in addition to developing the scientific capabilities of students, the department in 2016 prepared a new study plan for the bachelor’s program. The new study plan was prepared to be comprehensive and advanced in keeping with the requirements of the labor market, taking into account keeping up with the foundations of accreditation of Jordanian and international higher education institutions. The department provides a group of advanced and modern computer laboratories that are used in the fields of teaching and scientific research. Specialized laboratories have also been established, such as the information retrieval and data mining laboratory, the multimedia laboratory, and the database laboratory.
