About Bachelor of Turkish Language and Literature

Department of Turkish Language and Literature of Hacettepe University was established in 1969 by Prof.Dr. ÅžÃ¼krÃ¼ ElÃ§in. From 1969 to 1974 it has offered only Ph.D. degrees on Turkish language and Turkish literature. Since 1975 it has offered undergraduate and graduate (M.A. and Ph.D.) degrees. Department of Turkish Language and Literature is a four year formal education program under Faculty of Letters. Language of instruction is Turkish (accept obligatory foreign language lessons).The objective of the department`s interdisciplinary and intercultural approach is to enable students to develop a critical insight into various literary and cultural traditions. The courses offered in the department define and analyze the development of Turkish literary and cultural traditions and examine the historical development of of Turkish language and literature all its diversity and depth. The courses in the program focus on the cultural, literary, historical, intellectual, social, artistic and political aspects of the Turkish language and literature and how these ideas have developed from the inception of Turkish culture and literature to the present. One of the goals of our department is to educate teachers, experts and scientists in the field of Turkish language and literature.

Entry Requirements

In order to be admitted to the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, the student is required to have completed the Turkish secondary education (or an equivalent education abroad) and to have obtained sufficient grades from the national university exam. Students are required to enter exams organized by Ã–SYM, to fill out the required forms and to enter the required listing from a sufficient number. The placement of the student in the department is carried out by Ã–SYM as a result of the central placement system. For detailed information, consult the Ã–SYM website (http://www.osym.gov.tr). Students of foreign nationalities are accepted to the program under the requirements of the Hacettepe University Senate.
