The English Language Education is a PhD degree offered by Hacettepe University at its main campus in Istanbul, Turkey. The program is delivered on campus as a Full Time course in English. Students study at the university's main campus while gaining the knowledge and practical experience expected for this area of study. The next intake is available from September 1, 2027.
About PhD in English Language Education
To graduate from English Language teaching PhD program, students are required to take graduate courses of 24 credits, pass the comprehensive exam and defend their theses successfully in front of the jury members.
The PhD programme comprises of courses, comprehensive exam, thesis proposal, thesis study and thesis defence exam. Those accepted to the PhD program with a master's certificate have to take courses of at least 24 credits and those accepted with an undergraduate certificate have to take courses of at least 45 credits in total. According to the European Credit Transfer System those accepted with a master's certificate have to take courses of at least 120 credits and thesis study of 120 credits and those accepted with an undergraduate degree have to take courses of at least 180 credits and a thesis study of 120 credits. The duration to complete PhD education is for 8 semesters. Successful students have the right to take doctoral comprehensive exam. The exam comprises two parts such as interview and written exam. The successful ones in doctoral comprehensive exam defend their thesis proposals orally to the thesis approval committee. The students whose proposals have been accepted prepare their thesis studies in the supervision of the aforesaid committee. The ones who have finished their thesis studies take the thesis defence exam and if they succeed, they are honoured with PhD certificate of English Language Teaching.
