Metallurgical and Materials Engineering focuses in designing ad the production of metals, ceramic-polymers and alloys to have required properties. Metallurgical and materials engineering seeks for understanding the relationships among the structure, property, process and performance of materials considering environmental concerns and responsibilities.
Metallurgical and Materials Engineering serves for the humanity by using both natural resources and secondary resources and it has mission and strategies to deliver multidisciplinary studies in both education and research @amp; developments activities without disregarding environmental responsibilities.
In world history, the roots of metallurgy can be traced back to the ancient civilizations of Anatolia. The first metallurgists were born on these lands and they steered the socio-cultural and technological history of humanity. Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering honors this historic responsibility and maintains an ever-growing effort to develop and enhance this profession launched by our pioneers.
ITU was the first academic institution in Turkey to launch an education program on Metallurgy and Materials Engineering. Now past its 50th anniversary, the field of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering continues to grow as a multidisciplinary field of science and technology that encompasses chemistry, mechanics, civil engineering, aero-space, electrics/electronics, the environment and even medicine.
