Design research involves thinking and learning through transdisciplinary practices that engage the material, spatial, technical, ecological, political, economic, social and cultural developments in contemporary life. Master in Design Program at Kadir Has University investigates design as an analytical and creative thinking process, providing a wide spectrum of methodologies in research in a collaborative environment.

While providing the tools for design research in practice, history and theory of design, the program seeks to guide students to problematize the issues producing critical, experimental, participatory, creative perspectives, transferring their disciplinary knowledge into the field of design research in elaborated innovative ways.

The program is open to cross-interactions and trans-disciplinary contents and areas of production. Candidates are offered with a wide selection of lectures, where they can structure their own personal and independent research and practice within program. Students may also choose one of the five offered areas of specialization in the framework of the program:

Spatial Research
Design by Social Innovation
Artistic and Performative Research
Design History and Theory
Curatorial Studies Module (in collaboration with IKSV Istanbul Biennial and Istanbul Design Biennial)

The studies are supervised by the academic staff of Art and Design Faculty of Kadir Has University. The language of the program is English.

Application is open to all students coming from diverse disciplines. The program offers the options to graduate with a written thesis.

Entry Requirements

Copy of the undergraduate or graduate diploma
For diplomas awarded abroad, a copy of the diploma equivalency certificate issued by YÖK's International Equivalency Office, certifying the equivalency of the diploma to that of a Turkish higher education institution (the letter of equivalence must be submitted by the end of the first semester).
Copy of English language proficiency test results
Transcript showing all courses taken and grades achieved in all higher education institutions the applicant has so far attended or graduated from. If the transcript does not provide any description of the grading system, separate documents must be provided for the grading system of the relevant institutions.
