Communication Studies Ph.D. Program

The Ph.D. program in Communication Studies aims to train scholars specializing in all areas of media and communication studies. The program seeks to provide candidates with theoretical knowledge in the fields of media and communication studies and to provide them with necessary experience and competence to conduct academic research. Candidates who are accepted to the Ph.D. program will be able to work as research assistants in projects carried out by faculty members and supported by academic institutions, such as TUBITAK, ERC, COST and H2020. With this method, the candidate will be able to find a studies and scholarly working environment and develop the competence to conduct academic research.

Communication Studies Ph.D. Program works concordantly with the departments of New Media, Advertising, Public Relations and Information, Radio, Television and Cinema and Visual Communication Design with the contributions of faculty members in the Faculty of Communication. It also works together with Communication Studies, Corporate Communication and Public Relations Management, Cinema-Television, and New Media M.A. programs in the School of Graduate Studies.

The program mainly includes courses on theory in social studies, media, communication, culture, globalization, digitalization, artistic production and design, corporate governance and organization.

The program constitutes courses (60 ECTS in total), followed by written and oral comprehensive exams, thesis proposal and the doctoral thesis. In order to graduate from the program, at least one international publication (in Q1 journals) derived from the doctoral thesis is required.

The Ph.D. program in Communication Studies encourages the candidates to have the necessary qualifications to produce interdisciplinary scholarly work and studies research. The program language is English.

For diplomas awarded abroad, a copy of the diploma equivalency certificate issued by YÖK's International Equivalency Office, certifying the equivalency of the diploma to that of a Turkish higher education institution (the letter of equivalence must be submitted by the end of the first semester).
