About Physics Graduate Programs

High Energy Astrophysics: High Energy Astrophysics research at Sabanci University concentrates on the structure, dynamics, and evolution of neutron stars, black holes, white dwarfs, matter in their environments, as well as the radiation emitted by these compact objects. Instrumentation research with room temperature semiconductors is also pursued. Detailed information on high energy astrophysics can be found at Astrophysics and Space Forum web pages. http://astrons.sabanciuniv.edu/asf Experimental Condensed Matter Physics: The Experimental Condensed Matter Physics Group mainly focuses on the electronic and magnetic properties of nanostructures and low dimensional electronic systems under extreme physical conditions (temperatures near absolute zero and very high magnetic fields). Specimens are patterned by electron beam lithography and have features down to a few tens of nanometers. Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics: The theoretical nanophysics group focuses on fundamental physics problems that arise in nanometer scale objects. Recent research interests of the group were on quantum transport in nanostructures, mesosopic physics, graphene physics, spintronics, spin Hall effect and topological insulators. The quantum information group is working on quantum entanglement and decoherence - not only fundamental concepts of quantum mechanics but also important challenges in the construction of quantum computers. Mathematical Physics: String theory is considered to be the best candidate for a quantum theory of gravity. In mathematics, bosonic string states and vertex operators offer the most direct representation of the Monster, the biggest simple finite group. The structure constants of the Fake Monster Lie algebra can be shown to be identical with 3-string amplitudes. Theoretical Molecular Biophysics: Concepts from physics are applied to problems in molecular biology in two complementary ways. On the one hand, because the biological function of life's molecules is constrained by their physical and chemical properties, it is important to describe the functional transformations these molecules undergo using the language of chemical physics. On the other, the most successful experimental techniques for probing the structure and dynamics of biomolecules at atomic resolution exploit the fundamental physical properties of these molecules, like their interaction with mechanical and electromagnetic forces.

2) Those holding Turkish citizenship by birth and renounced their Turkish citizenship, and their children under 18 who are listed in the renouncement document but documenting their certification for rights mentioned in the Turkish Citizenship Law, no: 5901, Item 7, stating that “Anyone born, either in Turkey or abroad, in the marriage of a Turkish mother or father, is a Turkish citizen.” Candidates who wish to apply within the “applications from abroad” category should examine the Turkish Citizenship Law.

3) Those who hold citizenship of other countries by birth; and have gained the citizenship of The Republic of Turkey / those who hold dual-citizenship,

4) a) Those who hold the citizenship of The Republic of Turkey and have completed last 3 years of their high school education in another country except The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus before 01/02/2013. (Including those who have completed their entire high school education in a Turkish high school opened in another country, except ones in The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, within the scope of MEB.)

b) Those who start their high school education after 01/02/2013 in abroad, and completing entire high school education in abroad except The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. (Including those who have completed their entire high school education in a Turkish high school opened in another country, except ones in The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, within the scope of MEB.)

c) Those who hold Turkish citizenship or dual citizenship, one of which is Turkish, must have received their high school education abroad as formal education (not distance education). These applicants are required to certify their formal education by presenting the relevant pages in their passports showing that they have entered the country where the high school is located during their high school education.

5) Those who hold the citizenship of The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, who reside in The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and who have completed their secondary education in a GCE AL system, as well as those who have registered and completed their secondary education in a GCE AL system abroad between 2005-2010.

- If taken before, copy of international language proficiency exam scores accepted by Sabancı University English Prep School: CLICK→ not compulsory, you can also take Sabancı University English Language Exam (ELEA) during registration week.
- If available, 1 academic letter of recommendation
- Letter of motivation (to strengthen your application)
- Any extracurricular certificate, such as Olympiad certificates (to strengthen your application)
