About Bachelor of Economics

B.A. in Economics program aims to raise students who are qualified in social and mathematical aspects, who can conceptualize and solve economic problems, who can think analytically and set cause and effect relationship on the issues they encounter. In addition to core courses in economics and quantitative methods our undergraduate education program provides a wide range of selective courses in business, history, law, sociology and applied economics fields. Undergraduate economics curriculum is designed to be completed in 4 years (or 8 semesters). To promote ability to read, write and speak fluently and to follow recent literature 30 per cent of the courses are taught in English.

Undergraduate Program of Department of Economics aims to bring up students, who; Are able to analyze economic and social developments, in line with the notions of economics and related disciplines, interpret social phenomena and raise suggestions for solutions of social and economic problems,

Grasped the main problematic of economics and are capable of analyzing and debating on behaviours of the individual as a consumer, as well as the firm as a producer in short, medium and long term under various market structures

Are capable of explaining and proposing remedies for potential problems to be faced by national economies, unemployment, inflation, uneven income distribution namely, in connection with economic policy tools such as money supply, interest rate, government expenditures, taxes,

Able to relate and explain the interactions between international economic developments, which become increasingly central in the global age, and problems of local economies, as well as activities of individuals and firms;

Are aware of the fact that economic developments being experienced have an historical background, these developments can be considered comparatively through more than one conceptual framework and can significantly be affected by the institutional setting, within which they occur

Appreciate the indispensability of utilizing logical, mathematical, econometrical and statistical techniques for solving problems in real life and capable of using these techniques competently;

Capable of debating on fields of applied economy in the actual economic world, such as agriculture, industry, services, environment, natural resources and urban issues, through economic concepts and proposing solutions for problems related to these fields;

Are equipped with a certain understanding of accounting, finance, law, political science and sociology and are able to utilize them in economic analysis, along with the consciousness that, other social sciences augment the capacity of an economist to comprehend, explain and suggest solutions;

Are knowledgeable with obtaining sources and data required for analyzing the problems to be considered, capable of presenting problems as a report at certain academic standards and present these outcomes to different groups of audience through various presentation technologies;

Have competence in English at a level sufficient for utilizing publications in this language with the intention of understanding and analyzing economic developments, as well as sharing views and information with peers in different countries;

Capable of figuring out main dynamics in Turkish economy and analyzing economic and social problems of Turkey;

Can appreciate the value of different cultures, thoughts and approaches, who are concerned about environment and other worldwide issues, are aware of the fact that education is a lifetime process and are also equipped with relevant skills.

Requirements and Admission Criteria for Bachelor of Economics at Yildiz Technical University

Entry Requirements

Those who want to enroll in YTU undergraduate degree programs must get the sufficient score required by YTU from the exam administered by the Student Selection and Placement Center (OSYM) and should not have an existing enrollment in another higher education program. The rules and regulations in â€œDirective On Application and Registration of Foreign Studentsâ€ are applied to the students from abroad who want to enroll in this program. The students who qualify to enroll in undergraduate degree programs whose medium of instruction is 30% English have to take English Proficiency Exam. â€œDirective on Instruction and Examination, School of Foreign Languages (YDYO)-YTUâ€ and other regulations apply to English Proficiency Exam and Preparatory English Courses, except for the Foreign Languages Department English Language Teaching Program.
The undergraduate students in this program must be successful in all of the courses with a minimum achievement grade of DC, must have completed at least 240 ECTS credits and have scored a minimum CGPA of 2.00/4.00. At the same time, the students must complete their compulsory internship within the designated period of time and within the scope of necessary qualifications.

How to Apply for Bachelor of Economics at Yildiz Technical University

Candidates should have at least the lowest required scores to make an application to undergraduate programs at Yıldız Technical University. Placement is done by the exam scores, thus, you may have a better chance with a higher exam score. Indeed, your chances of admission vary considerable, based on which department you want to get in. Some departments are more competitive. We suggest you to check the lowest placement scores of the departments you would like to apply.

Candidates who have a minimum exam score recognized by Yıldız Technical University can apply for departments they would like to study between (30 July - 09 August 2020). Candidates who have more than one scores can apply any one of them with which they want to apply. Department application will be made online.

There are different quotas or quota ratios for YTUYÖS exam scores and SAT scores. Different diploma scores will be converted to 100 points scoring system and will be considered as YTUYÖS exam score, thus the candidates applying with different diploma scores should apply to the quotas assigned for YTUYÖS.

Applications to departments should be made carefully, because the students can not change their department preferences once they submit their application. Candidates should list the departments they would like to get in from 1 – 8. Candidates should apply at least one and at most eight departments. Candidate placements are considered according to the exam results and preferences.

If candidates are placed one of their departmental choices, they cannot apply for second placements even if they do not register to the department they are admitted. Thus, students should apply the departments they would like to study. Second placements are only open for the students who applied for admission, but who are not admitted to the any departments in the first circle.

In Department Application Process;

Candidates who took YTÜYÖS exam, can make their department applications with their candidate number.

Candidates who did not take YTÜYÖS exam, can make their department applications after filling up a form about their credentials. Candidate number (a 11 digit number) will be sent to candidates’ e-mails written in form. These candidates should also send the below-mentioned documents (a .jpg format) together with the online form:

1)Exam Result: The translation of the exam score/ diploma into Turkish certified by translation office and by notarized by notarial office. Documents which are in English are accepted and does not need to be translated into Turkish language. Only the page that indicates the exam/ diploma score should be send (.jpg format- one page)

2)Passport: Identity page of your Passport .jpg formatted as a one page.

Applications which are not completed during application period, will be not be considered for assessments. In other words, if candidates’ information and uploaded documents are not submitted during application period, application will be considered as invalid.

In addition, the uploaded documents which cannot be read and understood clearly, which are false, deceptive, incomplete and/or false are not accepted. In that situation, candidates’ applications will not be considered for assessment.
