    About

    The PhD program in Kinesiology allows students interested in Kinesiology & Health Studies, Sport Management and Leadership, or the Socio-Cultural aspects of Kinesiology to develop excellence in designing, conducting and disseminating research knowledge to the broader community, including:

    • The workplace
    • Sport and Applied Sport Science
    • Teaching
    • Recreation & leisure
    • Physical activity & exercise
    • Rehabilitation

    The PhD program in Kinesiology has a community-based focus recognizing the wellbeing of both individuals and the collective at local, national, and international levels. Graduates will be prepared to provide the resources necessary to sustain the community and will be able to supply current, novel ideas, and knowledge. This community-based focus in a Kinesiology program is not represented in any other existing program in Canada.

    NEW! PhD positions in sport science and strength and conditioning work directly with our Lancer varsity sports teams, conducting applied research within the daily training environment of our football, volleyball, and soccer teams. The program offers an opportunity to be both a practitioner and researcher.

    Entry Requirements

    Applicants will be required to have a completed Masters degree, normally with thesis, from a Kinesiology and/or Kinesiology related program.

    • Applicants must have a minimum B+ (77%) average in their Masters program.
      • *Only in exceptional cases will alternative admission requirements be considered (e.g., applicant holds a PhD in a related discipline or a M.D. degree); however, the minimum admission average or equivalent must still be met.
    • Credit transfer will only apply to courses in research methods or statistics and will waive the other requirement if deemed appropriate at the time of admission.

    Proficiency in English Scores (if applicable):

    • TOEFL: IBT – 100 (no sub-section lower than 22)
    • IELTS: 7.0 (no individual band lower than 6.5)
    • Pearson: 68 (no sub-section lower than 58)
    • MET: 64 (no sub-section lower than 60)
    • CAEL: 70 (no sub-section lower than 60)
    • Duolingo English Test (DET): 130 (no sub-section lower than 120)
    • Cambridge English: Advanced (CEA) or Cambridge English: Proficiency (CEP): 185 (no sub-section lower than 175)
