    Save money and time when you begin taking classes in Wilkes Universitys low-residency Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing while still a college senior. The 4+1 BA/MA allows you to complete the master of arts degree just one year(s) after graduating with your bachelors degree!

    Entry Requirements

    Admission Requirements To be considered for the 4+1 program, you must: be enrolled at one of our partnering universities OR receive approval from program director David Hicks and your undergraduate university dean; submit at least one recommendation from a creative writing faculty member from your undergraduate institution; hold a 3.5 grade-point average or higher in creative writing classes. Upon completing the first residency and two foundation courses, you must formally apply to be admitted into the MA creative writing program. Following approval by your Wilkes and undergraduate faculty, you must submit the following: completed application $45 non-refundable application fee official transcript of all undergraduate and graduate work two letters of recommendation creative writing sample (15 to 25 pages from any genre or genres of published/unpublished work that best demonstrates your creative ability) a three- to 10-page essay responding to these questions: Where are you with regard to your writing and how did you get here? Why Wilkes? What do you hope to accomplish in our program? What will you do with your program accomplishments following graduation? resume, including creative citations

    English Program Requirements

    International students must present a sufficient English language proficiency score to enroll as an undergraduate student.

    If the medium of instruction in your secondary school, college or university was English, the English proficiency requirement may be waived. A student must provide a letter from the school’s principal or registrar stating the medium of instruction is English.

    Exceptions

    All international applicants whose education has been primarily outside the United States of America must provide objective evidence of proficiency in the English language. However, the following exceptions apply.

    Transcripts

    The academic report should include a list of subjects studied, a qualitative rating on a course-by-course basis and an overall rating. Emailed copies are acceptable for the admissions process, however official transcripts are required to be submitted to Wilkes by the first day of mandatory orientation.

    Proof of English proficiency Financial verification

    You will need to submit a bank or government statement indicating that you or your sponsor have on account a sum of money sufficient to pay tuition, room, board and expenses for one academic year(s).

    Passport/Visa

    You must submit a copy of the passport page containing your picture. If you have a visa, you may send a copy of that as well.

    Wilkes University will not review applications for admission until we have received all required information. You will be notified of your admissions decision one to two weeks after your all information is received and your file is complete.

    Once you are admitted, the Center for Global Education and Diversity will assist you in getting your Form I-20 and offer numerous orientation programs, cultural activities and social events designed to introduce you to Wilkes University and American culture.
