Accounting and Finance, BSc

Our course offers a fully integrated degree that combines accounting and finance subjects. The course is designed for students who seek to broaden their knowledge in both the accounting and finance disciplines.

The accounting subjects provide students with insight into accounting institutions (for example, audit firms), accounting regulations and accounting techniques that are used by and support organisations both inside and outside the financial market.

The finance subjects explore financial institutions, financial trading, financial investment, financial regulations and structures that support the market. Students are kept up to date with current events through research-led teaching by academic experts in the field.

Our course is rigorous and draws on theory, cutting-edge research and practice to prepare students for their future careers in the accounting and finance field. It has a world-class reputation for producing high-quality graduates with strong quantitative skills and a global outlook.

This course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) by way of exemptions from some professional examinations enabling students to fast-track their careers.

Previously, graduates have gone on to work for the Bank of England, JP Morgan, UBS, PwC, KPMG, EY, Microsoft, IBM and many other blue-chip organisations.

Course structure

In the first year, the focus is on strengthening your problem-solving skills. You will study the fundamental principles across core disciplines in accounting, economics, finance, mathematics, and statistics. You will be able to choose an optional unit in the second semester of the first year.

The second year builds on principles learnt in the first year while advancing your knowledge in accounting and finance subjects. It emphasises problem-solving and application skills. You will study financial accounting, management accounting and finance in more depth. You will be able to choose some optional units.

The final year consolidates on your learning from year one and two. You learn more advanced quantitative and qualitative skills.

You will have an opportunity to develop your critical skills and deepen your knowledge of complex issues in accounting and finance.

The final year offers greater flexibility and choice in the selection of options. You may choose to tailor the degree to your own interests by specialising in a particular area. You may also choose to keep your options open by selecting units across disciplines, such as management. Examples of recent units include Management Accounting for Strategy, Advanced Financial Reporting, Auditing, Advanced Corporate Finance, and Financial Markets.

Students who have successfully completed either the University of Bristol International Foundation Programme or an appropriate foundation/bridging programme such as those offered by our partners, and have met the entry requirements for their chosen degree, will be considered for admission to undergraduate courses.

• Applicants with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma or A-Levels will be considered for direct admission to our undergraduate degree programmes. Entry requirements are listed in ourUndergraduate Prospectus.

• Applicants who have completed the Tawjihi (Certificate of General Secondary Education) with required grades, combined with the successfully completed American tests, a total of THREE in any combination from the list provided on ourUSA country page, will be considered for admission to our Bachelor degree courses.
• Applicants who have successfully completed the first year of a Jordanian university degree with a GPA of 3.5 out of 5.0 (or 3.0 out of 4.0)will be considered for admission to the first year of our Bachelor degree courses.
