CREATIVE WRITING

Liverpool, a city of poets and storytellers, is the perfect place to study a Creative Writing degree. With Merseyside’s distinctive literary culture, you will be taught by writers, poets, and academics who are closely connected to the local writing community and recognised internationally for their work.

This Creative Writing course focuses on developing your craft in poetry, prose, script and screenwriting and professional writing, spanning fiction, creative nonfiction, reviews, blogs, and media writing. You will learn how to produce engaging, innovative, and marketable texts while enhancing your creativity and employability.

By studying Creative Writing, you will gain confidence in your voice, technical skills to reach diverse audiences, and an appreciation of forms, genres, and applications. Supported by practising writers and enriched by field trips, public readings, open mics, and literary magazines, the Creative Writing degree challenges you to grow as a writer and prepares you for fulfilling creative careers.

Careers

The course will prepare students for further training and/or for a career in acting. Possible careers include teacher, mentor, artist, producer, director, actor on screen and new media, actor for gaming.

Work Placement Opportunities

Students are able to complete a placement year and support will be provided in finding a placement. Short-term placements may be available, including the option to work as a research intern.

Creative Writing

Careers

Creative writing at Liverpool Hope University will set you on the road to interesting and fulfilling careers. You will be able to publish as a poet, fiction writer, critic or blogger, write compelling features for magazines and broadcasters, develop multimedia applications for businesses, work on copy for advertising and public relations companies, or progress onto postgraduate study.

Employability is very much at the heart of this subject. Creative approaches to the production of factual or fictional material will be nurtured in order to maximise the development of transferable skills.
