    About

Assess Risk and Solve Financial Problems

Learn how to analyze probabilities, risks and potential outcomes. You will master mathematical theory and apply your knowledge to solve financial problems as an actuary. UAlbany's bachelor's in actuarial and mathematical sciences program will prepare you for a career in areas including insurance, pension, finance, government and business.

    Student Learning Objectives

Learning objectives that UAlbany students are expected to attain through their course of study within their academic program.

    Bachelor of Science
    Bachelor of Science
    • Construct proofs using techniques from logic such as proof by contradiction and/or specific techniques such as the principle of induction.
    • Analyze and check correctness of mathematical arguments, and read mathematical text independently.
    • Apply an advanced abstract mathematical idea to a concrete real-world problem (e.g., application of differential equations, or linear programming, or RSA or error correction codes).
    • Write effectively using language appropriate for mathematical discourse.
    • Use calculus to analyze and evaluate properties of real valued functions.
    • Successfully complete two sequences of two advanced courses in different areas of mathematics, establishing depth required, for example, for further graduate studies in mathematics and natural sciences.
    • Use mathematics, statistics, and probability principles for the analysis and quantification of risk of uncertain future events and their potential financial impact.

    Entry Requirements

All applicants must arrange for their official school and/or college transcripts to be sent to us.

    • First-year (freshmen) applicants: You must submit an official transcript from your secondary school for admissions purposes.

If you are admitted, you will also need to submit an official final transcript from your secondary school showing your date of graduation.

Academic transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official, certified English translation.

All transcripts should be sent to:

    Transcript Evaluation

A transcript evaluation allows the review committee to correctly compare the quality of your school, coursework and grades with all other applicants.

Although not required, we accept SpanTran or WES evaluations sent from the organization directly to the University at Albany.

Other evaluation services can only be used if they require official documents directly from the institution of higher education, not the student, to evaluate coursework. The organization must also be accredited by NACES.
