    About

    The Actuarial Science major trains students in the mathematical, statistical, and business techniques needed to assess and manage risk in a variety of settings including insurance, health care, business, and finance. The job of actuary is a challenging but rewarding one that is usually ranked at or near the top of annual “best jobsâ€‌ lists.

    Requirements

    Entry Requirements

    For qualitative purposes, SAP requires a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0. Undergraduate student GPAs are reviewed annually, normally in May after spring grades have been posted, to evaluate eligibility for federal, state, and institutional grants, scholarships, loans and work programs. Note: Some degree programs may have higher GPA and credit requirements for students to maintain program eligibility. Students should consult the program description in the catalog for requirements of their individual programs.

Our graduates have obtained actuarial positions at a variety of companies including MassMutual, GE Financial, The Hartford, Fidelity, Lincoln Financial Group, Towers Watson, and independent consulting firms. Our Department maintains contacts with numerous area actuarial professionals in order to keep our program up to date and our graduates competitive.
