    About

    UC's Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner DNP program prepares students at the highest level of nursing practice to provide advanced care for adolescents, older adults, and the frail elderly with acute, short-term illness, exacerbated chronic illness, or terminal disease.

    UC's Adult-Gero Acute Care NP program offers:

    • Courses taught by faculty who currently practice in the field
    • In-person, hands-on training that thoroughly prepares students for clinical experiences and real-world practice
    • Flexible scheduling with a minimum time to completion of three years and a maximum of five years

    Note: Students must reside in Ohio, Kentucky, or Indiana while in the program.

    For our graduate programs, we welcome applications from students who hold a bachelor's degree (or higher) from a college or university accredited by a regional or general accrediting agency, and have at least a B average in undergraduate course work (or otherwise give evidence of promise that is judged satisfactory by the admitting program).

    Graduates of this specialty meet educational requirements to take exams for national certification. Certified Adult-Gero Acute Care NPs provide services ranging from disease prevention to critical care to stabilize a patient's condition, prevent complications, restore health, or offer palliative care. Adult-Gero Acute Care NPs also coordinate comprehensive care in and across health care settings to ensure patients' needs are met during care transitions. Many Adult-Gero Acute Care NPs work in hospitals, ambulatory care facilities or short-term stay settings.
