Please note that this qualification is only available to students who have completed the MSc Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy Studies degree at Newman University.
This course is accredited by the Universities Training College (UTC) of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
Course Aim
The aim of the professional pathway in psychotherapy at Newman is to facilitate students academic and practical professional development as part of the requirements for professional registration in psychotherapy, in order to be able to practice as Psychotherapists in a range of public, private and voluntary sector contexts nationally. Building upon the MSc Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies, the Advanced Diploma aims to enable students to work with the depth and complexity needed for achieving the status of UKCP registered psychotherapist.
The Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapy Studies aims to support graduates:
- Able to employ critical thinking and advanced scholarship in assessing client needs, identifying appropriate interventions and monitoring treatment outcomes
- Skilled in the delivery of psychotherapeutic interventions to nationally articulated standards of competence for the profession
- Able to demonstrate personal qualities of kindness; tolerance to ambiguity, conflict, intimacy and differences; and reflective self-awareness
- Cognisant of the current state of the art in psychotherapy, and committed to ongoing professional development and keeping their knowledge base up-to-date
- Aware of and equipped to avail themselves of existing employment opportunities across the sector.
