The program in African Languages and Literature at UGA is one of the most outstanding in the country. In particular the program is renowned for sound African language and culture pedagogy. This program at UGA has offered the following languages over the years: Swahili, Amharic, Arabic, Hausa, Manding, Yoruba, and Zulu. The goal is to increase the number of African Languages taught at UGA. CMLT has hosted and provided significant support to the PAL which has continued to enjoy a strong partnership with ASI. Interestingly, the program in African Languages came into existence at the University, just a year after the establishment of the then African Studies Program.

UGA supports two different application platforms for First-Year applications. Students should only submit one of these applications. We do not prefer any particular application platform, so please select the option that works best for you and your school counselor. While we are still members of the Coalition for College, we will not be accepting applications on that platform for students applying for Fall 2023.
