Overview You feel a calling to study the black diaspora, travel to storied lands, and understand the dynamics of cultural phenomena like hip-hop music, the civil rights movement and the country's first black president. You would be fascinated by a trip to a black comic book convention or a summer seminar in someplace like Haiti, Panama or Brazil. The Department of Africana Studies at The City University of New York offers a multidisciplinary curriculum devoted to in-depth study of blacks in Africa, the Caribbean and the United States. One of our goals is to serve as a bridge between Brooklyn College and the diasporic community of New York through research and sponsored programs and as community representatives.
