    Agricultural Education

    About

Agricultural Education prepares students for certification and teaching of agriculture at the middle school and high school levels.

Students complete an approved program of course work in both agricultural sciences and teacher education. In the final year of the program, student engage in a school practicum that involves observation of agricultural instruction in schools across the state, helping students understand the job of teaching agriculture. Student teaching is carried out in an approved middle or high school under the daily supervision of an experienced, master teacher of agriculture. Supervision is also provided by University of Georgia Agricultural Education faculty.

The employment outlook is excellent: there is a national shortage of teachers of agriculture, and for the past 30+ years Georgia has had more job openings than graduates of the program. Graduates are also eligible for a variety of related careers in agricultural business, leadership, industry, and government agencies.

Study Abroad Options: Scotland: Youth Engagement in Agriculture and Morocco: Agriculture, Organizational and Community Development are ran through the Agricultural Leadership Education and Communication (ALEC) Department. Additional options are available through the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CAES) study abroad office, they can be found on the CAES website.

    How to Apply

UGA supports two different application platforms for First-Year applications. Students should only submit one of these applications. We do not prefer any particular application platform, so please select the option that works best for you and your school counselor. While we are still members of the Coalition for College, we will not be accepting applications on that platform for students applying for Fall 2023.
