    Overview American Studies majors have the flexibility to define their own area of concentration, such as visual studies, cultural studies, race and ethnicity, legal and constitutional studies, the American environment, American capitalism or class and social structure.At Cornell University, the American Studies major includes an individually-designed concentration area as well as a required distribution of courses. All students majoring in American Studies must take a total of twelve courses selected from the American Studies roster, completing them with a grade of C or better.
