    About

The Animal Health major is designed specifically for students looking for a fast track into UGA's veterinary school after three years of pre-veterinary study in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Upon completion of the UGA degree requirements and your first year of veterinary school at UGA's College of Veterinary Medicine, students will be eligible for a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree with a major in Animal Health.

Students are required to declare a co-major within their first year of their undergraduate major that they will switch to should they not be accepted early with Animal Health. These co-major options are: Applied Biotechnology, Biological Science, Animal Science, Avian Biology, Entomology, and/or Dairy Science.

Students will use their senior year of study to complete the requirements for their newly declared major and – if another career path has not been chosen – students can reapply to UGA's vet program as well as other veterinary institutions.

Students will be required to secure vet shadowing hours independent from UGA. However, there are opportunities at UGA's vet school for vet experience. CAES departments also offer competitive experience for the veterinary application in research, undergraduate teaching, and animal caretaking. Students are also eligible for CAES Scholarships each academic year they are enrolled as an undergraduate student. You will work with a pre-vet advisor in this major to help prepare for the

    How to Apply

UGA supports two different application platforms for First-Year applications. Students should only submit one of these applications. We do not prefer any particular application platform, so please select the option that works best for you and your school counselor. While we are still members of the Coalition for College, we will not be accepting applications on that platform for students applying for Fall 2023.
