    Modern animal agriculture aims to produce quality products in efficient and humane animal production systems. Through studying animal behaviour, housing and management systems that promote farm animal welfare, you’ll learn how to ensure the sustainability of animal agriculture while pursuing a career in this growing industry.

    Learn how environment affects productivity, how physiology affects reproduction, and how to improve food quality, production and performance through animal breeding and nutrition.

    Hands-on Learning

    Explore course topics in applied ways in barns and facilities with actual animals. You’ll learn in the various University of Guelph animal housing environments and work with cattle, horses, pigs, and poultry.

    Gain Valuable Experience Through Co-op

    Our Animal Science co-op is a five-year program, with four co-op work terms, providing opportunities to work with a wide variety of employers, including government agencies, research labs, farms and agricultural companies. Co-op is designed to facilitate the transition of students from academic studies to a professional career improving students’ job search skills, work performance and networking abilities, and boosting resume experience.     Entry Requirements

    Applicants from Bahrain, Jordan, Palestine, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Yemen must present the National Secondary School Education/Leaving Certificate (Tawjihiyah) with very good/excellent results overall and in appropriate subjects.

    Students from Kuwait should present the Shahad-al-thanawia-al-a-a'ama (General Secondary School Certificate) with excellent results and those from UAE, the Secondary School Certificate (Shahadat Al-Thanawiya Al-Amma). See UAE for more details. Documents must be official and come from the school, Ministry or the appropriate Cultural Bureau.

    English Program Requirements

    Advanced Level of the English Language Certificate Program (ELCP): Successful completion of the University of Guelph’s Open Learning Advanced Level of the English Language Certificate Program (ELCP) (levels 9 and 10) is also considered an acceptable form of testing for English proficiency.

    Cambridge English: C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency: Minimum overall score of 176 with no band less than 169.

    Canadian Academic English (CAEL): Paper and Computer-based: Language Assessment Minimum overall band score of 70.

    Duolingo English Test: Minimum overall score of 110. Individual subscores may be considered.

    International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS - Academic): Paper and Computer-based: Minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6.

    Pearson Test of English (PTE): Minimum overall score of 60 with no score less than 60 in the individual components.

    Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): For both internet-based and home-edition tests: Minimum total score of 89 with no individual scaled score less than 21. Effective January 21, 2026: Minimum overall score of 4.5.
