    About

    Our program allows students to directly engage with contemporary anthropological topics and applied research. Core courses added over the past three years include Visual Anthropology, Medical Anthropology, Cultural Ecology, Climate and Society, Applied Anthropology, and Prisons, Punishment and Control. Our department focuses on modern issues of inequality, environmental and social justice, cultural heritage ownership, and activism. Geographic areas of&;focus include the Chesapeake Bay Region, Caribbean, Central and South America, Southeastern United States, and Southwestern United States.

    English Program Requirements

    Note: We can also accept SAT or ACT scores instead of these English Proficiency exams. International students from countries such as the English-speaking islands of the caribbean including Belize and Guyana, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe,  Malawi,  Ghana,  Rwanda and Sudan where the official language is English and whose cumulative GPA is a 3.5 and above may be allowed to apply test optional  at the discretion of your  admissions counselor.

    For students who do NOT meet our minimum required English Proficiency scores, Washington College has a partnership with LADO International Institute. By studying at LADO you can enjoy:

    • A TOEFL and IELTS waiver if you satisfy the LADO requirements
    • The best English preparation program possible on your way to university

    If you meet the following requirements at the LADO International Institute, your TOEFL score requirement will be waived in your application to Washington College.

    Students must:

    • Have a final grade of at least 85% in levels 9 and 10.
    • Receive a recommendation letter from an upper level teacher at LADO.
    • Receive a recommendation letter from the Director of the center.
    • Submit their transcript from LADO.
